Habitat for Humanity Alternative Spring Break Program

March 2020

The Alternative Spring Break Program is a student-run organization that offers life-changing opportunities to spend spring break on service trips helping people and communities around the country.

On my trip I visited Tennessee and worked alongside Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for victims of gentrification.  Although the town we were in was pretty affluent, the individuals in need of homes were being pushed out due to increases in property taxes and a variety of other factors as more wealthy individuals were flocking to this area.

Working in partnership with the other Widener students and faculty, we were able to assist in the construction and maintenance of the site and speed along this process so that those in need of these homes would soon have access to a well-build home for themselves and their families.
