Addressing Health Inequities in Chester

In response to the disproportionate effects Covid-19 had on the Chester community, me and a team of Widener students and faculty led by Ijjae Hill applied and received grant funding from the Bonner Foundation to cover the cost of Covid-19 testing for members of the DELCO community through partnership with Everest Urgent Care.  This started an initiative to combat health inequities in the DELCO area as this community is home to over 20 major polluters and is a prime example of environmental racism in America.  The disproportionate amount of pollution in the DELCO area puts residents at extreme risk for lung-related diseases, therefore, making the Covid-19 pandemic an extreme threat.  This initiative aims to combat these health inequities in Chester and the surrounding community and offset the effects of environmental racism and a lack of resources.
